Bala provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering design services for this new 325,000 square foot high school in Billerica, Massachusetts. The new school replaced the old school and provide much needed updates for its growing student body.
With more than 1,610 students from grades 8 through 12, as well as a 200-student Pre-K program, Billerica School is one of the largest schools in Massachusetts. The new building features a flexible design meant to emulate modern workplaces and included student-focused classrooms and labs including “makerspaces”, robotics rooms and engineering classrooms.
The new school also features a 17,000 square foot indoor gymnasium, a walking track, a library, a 700-seat auditorium and smaller black-box theater, a fitness center and locker rooms.
Billerica Memorial High School has won several awards recognizing the project's design excellence including: AIA 2022 Architecture Award and IIDA New England's 2020 Best in Show and Education Award.
