This chemical company is constructing a new, $150 million research facility located on the University of Delaware’s Science Technology and Advanced Research (STAR) campus. The new facility will consolidate laboratories and offices for approximately 330 scientists, engineers and researchers. Bala performed the IT infrastructure design, security design and audio and visual design services for the project.
The new, four-story facility features more than 100 labs, 50 specialty rooms, cafes, conference rooms, 20 huddle rooms for small group meetings and a large 3x3 recessed video wall.
The main server room is constructed with a 2-tier overhead ladder rack system, hot aisle containment solution, dual core networking cabinets that serve each cabinet with copper UTP and OM4 optical fiber for complete redundancy. Each IDF is served from the main server room with OM4 optical fiber in redundant and diverse paths via underground and overhead conduit systems.
The access control system has badge in/badge out policies, inclusive of three outside mustering locations. The video surveillance consists of IP fixed and PTZ cameras inside and outside of the building, as well as on parking lot light poles.
The Audio and Visual systems consist of video conferencing, audio conferencing, screen and content sharing, digital signage, a 3x3 recessed video wall with sound in the main lobby, a 3x3 video wall in the multi-purpose room with “spillover” space when retractable doors are open and the grand Experience Room.
