Bala provided design services for the electrical systems within this 646,000 SF,  26 gate, $400M terminal.  The project consisted of a replacement terminal, a satellite terminal and passenger/utility tunnel.

For the replacement terminal, Bala designed a new 15kV NSTAR utility substation to be owned and operated by Massport to serve the new Terminal A, and also tied via new 15kV feeders to the other three NSTAR substations at Logan.  Bala also designed roadway and airside lighting, fiber optic tie-ins for access control, CCTV, fire alarm, power monitoring, EMS and data to and from other locations at the airport.

Included within the design were connections to the overhead passenger walkways, one that connected to the West Garage and Terminal E, and the other which connected to Terminals B and C.  There was also underground connections to the main utility tunnel from the Heating Plant and a new A-B tunnel connecting A to Terminal B, which required new lighting, fire alarm and IT pathways.  Bala also designed roadway lighting to the upper and lower roadways which connect to the Terminal.

Terminal A is the World's First LEED Certified Airport Facility.
