This project is an 80,000 SF maintenance and parking facility for new CNG-fueled buses for Massport’s bus shuttle service at Logan International Airport. Bala did the MEP/FP engineering for this $20M facility. The building includes a bus barn and shed area, as well as maintenance bays and an administration area. Bala helped to design the 50kW photovoltaic system on the roof of the maintenance bays, and the high voltage service from Wood Island Station to a new pad mounted primary selector switch and pad mounted transformer that uses environmentally safe fluid. Dry chemical systems were designed for the lubrication room and for the outdoor filing station, and a clean agent system for the IT Room. HVAC design includes a vehicle exhaust system, hazardous gas detection with purge fans and heat recovery in the rooftop unit for the Administration Building.
The new facility was designed to minimize operational impacts to the adjacent neighborhoods with particular focus on air quality and noise during periods when airport and MBTA activity is off-peak.
