This joint venture between automaker Hyundai Motor Group and auto supplier Aptiv designs technology for autonomous vehicles. The company opened its new, 3-story Pittsburgh office and lab in the redeveloped space of an old steel mill. Bala performed commissioning of their corporate office fit-out to verify operation of the HVAC, electrical and building automation system.
Motional supports software development and automotive engineering, so commissioning of the equipment providing environmental conditioning and electrical infrastructure was crucial to their ongoing operation. Bala performed commissioning of the electrical systems including lighting controls, daylight harvesting, automatic sensor operation and scheduling. As a part of the systems commissioning, Bala verified the electrical distribution systems and emergency power by simulating a loss of power and verifying operation of the automatic transfer switches, emergency generator and activation of the emergency lighting. As part of the systems installed at Motional, Bala performed commissioning of the Building Automation System in conjunction with the HVAC and electrical systems to verify controls and monitoring of equipment throughout the space.
